We join the European campaign against prostitution #NotSexNotWork!
👉On June 2nd, the Spanish Supreme Court upheld the appeal of the “union” OTRAS and thus recognized the right of people who develop “sex work” to unionize.
On the same day, the European Commissioner for Equality and member of the European Socialist Group, Helena Dalli, celebrated on Twitter the ” sex workers’ day”. This succession of events only demonstrates the presence of the pimp lobby, as well as misogynists, in these institutions.
The European feminist movement is abolitionist and categorically rejects any discourse tending to normalize sexual exploitation by assimilating it to a decent job. Prostitution is sexual violence and the obligation of the European Commission and EU Member States, with the Istanbul Convention in hand, is to combat it. This was already clear in 2014, when the European Parliament adopted a resolution stating that prostitution violates human dignity and human rights, and that the Nordic Model constitutes the ideal means to combat prostitution.
